Both vertical and horizontal alignment are critical elements in leading teams to sustainable OKR success. Horizontal alignment means that initiatives and actions are aligned with Key Results. In turn, key results are aligned with objectives, and objectives represent clear and emphatic steps towards actualizing the company’s vision. On the other hand, vertical alignment means breaking down the silo effect through interdepartmental collaboration and sharing key results. All of the above can only be achieved sustainably when strong leadership shows the way by uplifting team engagement, inspiring and motivating them, and empowering people.
